STATEMENTS

STATEMENT OF THE ASSOCIATION OF MAJOR RELIGIOUS SUPERIORS IN THE PHILIPPINES ON THE PASSING AWAY OF FORMER PRESIDENT BENIGNO S. AQUINO III

Prot. 2021-088

On behalf of the Joint Executive Board and our member congregations and institutes, we wish to unite our voices with the whole nation in mourning the passing away of Former President Benigno S. Aquino III.

Many of us, religious and consecrated persons, will treasure not only the friendship that we had with President Aquino and his family, but also our mutual esteem for one another, borne out of our common goal of strengthening democracy and uplifting those in the fringes of Philippine society.

President Aquino often acknowledged the important contributions of consecrated men and women in keeping the flame of democracy alive, especially during the Martial Law period. On our part, we remember with appreciation the opportunities for dialogue and collaboration that we, as an Association, and as individual congregations and consecrated persons, had with him and his administration on many key social issues.

We extend our deepest condolences to his sisters and their families, as well as to President Aquino’s former colleagues and friends. We take comfort knowing that as President Aquino has put his faith in the Lord, he too, shall rise with him in the glory of the Resurrection.

We continue to offer our prayers for the repose of the soul of President Aquino and for our nation. May we all remain firm in our commitment to building God’s kingdom in our society.
